"Temples of Adrian Prahov’s soul"

"Temples of Adrian Prahov’s soul" is the name of the meeting of literary and artistic meeting room "The eternal constellation of the golden names" which was dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the famous art critic and professor Adrian Prahov.

Adrian Prahov left a great legacy in the form of frescoes of restored St. Cyril Church, the majestic St. Vladimir's Cathedral, restored mosaics of St. Sophia and St. Michael cathedrals... The head of the Chekhov Library Victoria Sharafanenko told the audience about the period of the Prahovs life in Kyiv; about professor’s wife Emily, who became the prototype of the Blessed Virgin Mary at St. Cyril Church; about her difficult relationships with Mikhail Vrubel who was the artist and the construction. As well participants have learned about descendants of the Prahovs who still live in Kiev.

 

Historical portrait "Until his last breath, he kept true devotion to the Church"

As part of the library project "Worthy sons of Ukraine” and the system-wide project "Ukraine: from the breathing of century to the present" the library held a historical portrait "Until his last breath, he kept true devotion to the Church"It was devoted to 140th anniversary of a patriot of his native land Blessed Josaphat Joseph Kotsylovsky. He was a Ukrainian Greek Catholic bishop. Head of Library Tatyana Stasiuk told the audience about the priest, doctor of philosophy and theology, professor, bishop of Przemysl diocese of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Participants learned about his life choices, active national and Catholic activities in his diocese, open citizenship, martyred in the Stalinist camp and the itinerancy of the martyr’s ashes.

 

Alexander Bilash - an artistic event “I grew up from the folk songs”

aThe Public library №160 held an artistic event “I grew up from the folk songs” which was a part of the project “The Worthy Sons of Ukraine”. The event was dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Alexander Bilash who was one of the most famous and the most favorite Ukrainian composers. He was a People's Artist of the Soviet Union, Hero of Ukraine and Shevchenko Prize winner.  The head of the Library Tatyana Stasiuk told the audience about Alexander Bilash childhood and teenage years, the funny stories that happened to him and his infinite love for music. Participants watched extracts from films “Roman and Francesca”, “Dream” and “Bag, which is full of hearts” where his incomparable songs are performed.  All present gladly sang their favorite songs.

 

Sophia Rusova – the outstanding daughter of Ukraine, public figure, talented teacher and educator, scientist.

aThe regular meeting of the District University of Culture "A dopt Ukraine in her heart for ever" was devoted to the 160th anniversary of Sophia Rusova – the outstanding daughter of Ukraine, public figure, talented teacher and educator, scientist. Director of Central Library System, Honored Culture Worker of Ukraine - Oksana Holovata told the audience about the amazing woman from the Swedish-French family, who carried endless love to Ukrainian people through all her life. She and her husband Alexander Rusov woke citizenship to the realization of self-respect by their views. Arrests were not able to bring her back from the path of of struggle for the rights of Ukrainian. Participants found out about her work in the UPR as leader of the department of pre-school and school education, its active part in the de-Russification of schools, that being in the emigration, she took an active part in the work of the Ukrainian community.

 

Ukrainian poet, translator, public figure, academician, Shevchenko National Prize laureate – Pavlo Tychyna

aThis year's first meeting of the District University of Culture was dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the famous Ukrainian poet, translator, public figure, academician, Shevchenko National Prize laureate – Pavlo Tychyna. Chief Librarian Kateryna Senko told the audience about the childhood of the poet, his original perception of the world, his love for singing and participation in the church choir, his friendship with Gregory Ver'ovka and Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky, his active civil position during the stormy revolutionary years, his support of talented youth. During the event the speaker was reading poems, read out memories of his contemporaries. Participants also listened with the large personal interest records of songs to his poetry and the live voice of the artist.

 

"Funny character with sad eyes" was the name of the meeting in the Weekend Club "Friendly circle" at the Library named by Anton Chekhov

For participants it has been prepared a touching story about the legendary Ukrainian laughable person, a favorite actor of many generations - Nikola Fedorovich Yakovchenko.

The head of the library Victoria Sharafanenko briefed the audience on the creative development of famous comedian, with his personal life, which was very difficult and full of tragic events. The participants also watched some archival photos, excerpts from famous movies with the actor and documentary from the series "Game of Fate", that dedicated to the artist.
